Savoy Brown – Boogie Brothers Live In New York 1974

Madison Square Garden NYC – March 13, 1974

Kim Simmonds (guitar, vocals)

Stan Webb (guitar, vocals)

Miller Anderson (guitar, vocals)

Jim Leverton (bass)

Eric Dillon (drums)

One of the few live recordings by the Boogie Brothers lineup.

In 1971, Kim Simmonds “stole” Andy Silvester, Paul Raymond and Dave Bidwell from Stan Webb’s band Chicken Shack to include them in his new Savoy Brown lineup. Three years later, in 1974, it was Stan Webb’s turn to join Savoy Brown for their Boogie Brothers LP. But at that time, all three previously “stolen” musicians had left. Full circle!

Audience recording – for completists

1. Boogie Brothers (8:20)
2. Rock 'n' Roll Star (14:27)
3. My Love's Lying Down (11:45)
4. Wang Dang Doodle (15:19)

Artwork Included (front, back, CD, autographed pictures, poster)

Savoy Brown – San Jose 1971

Santa Clara Fairgrounds, San Jose, California - March 20, 1971

Kim Simmonds (guitar, vocals)

Pete Scott (vocals)

Paul Raymond (keyboards)

Andy Pyle (bass)

Ron Berg (drums)

Pete “Scott” Ainsworth was Savoy Brown’s lead vocalist “between” Dave Peverett and Dave Walker (December 1970-April 1971). No studio tracks with him exist, but here we have, among others, an early live version of “Street Corner Talking” which would later be re-recorded in the studio with Dave Walker on vocals and be the opening track of their eponymous LP in 1971.

Earlier, Pete Ainsworth was the lead singer of Haydock’s Rockhouse, the band formed by Eric Haydock, former bass player of The Hollies, and later he was also the lead singer of Beggar’s Opera.

Paul Raymond’s keyboards are heavily featured.

1. Street Corner Talking (5:18)

2. Crawdad (4:54)

3. Losing Hand (11:34)

4. I'm A Bluesy Kid (9:54)

5. Unknown (5:52)

Savoy Brown – Fillmore West 1970

Fillmore West, San Francisco – 1970-12-03

Chris Youlden (vocals)

Kim Simmonds (guitar)

Tone Stevens (bass)

“Lonesome” Dave Peverett (guitar, vocals)

Roger Earl (drums)

Chris Youlden isn’t mentioned in most articles about this performance. But he’s clearly to be heard, so I have my doubts about the date being December 3, as Youlden left the band in May 1970. As it’s labelled “12-03”, it’s possibly March 12, 1970. But they did perform there on December 3, 1970 though. More info welcome.

1. I'm Tired (5:01)
2. A Little More Wine (5:49)
3. A Hard Way To Go (3:22)
4. Louisiana Blues (23:30)
5. Train To Nowhere (4:35)
6. Savoy Brown Boogie (5:48)
