A song by Bob Dylan, first recorded by him in 1967 (with The Band during the Basement Tapes sessions). That version was first released in 1991 on the first “Bootleg Series” triple LP.

A later version (1971) was released on one of his numerous “Greatest Hits” LPs. I’ve added it as a bonus track (#51).

The first released version of the song was by Boz (Burrell) in May 1968. He was joined by organist Jon Lord, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and drummer Ian Paice, who formed Deep Purple at the same time.

The first release of the song, the February 1968 UK #1 hit by Manfred Mann, was released as "Mighty Quinn". When Dylan released a live version of this song on his album “Self Portrait” in June 1970, the song was titled "The Mighty Quinn (Quinn The Eskimo)". This title was repeated when the same live recording was released on the album “Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2” in November 1971. When Dylan's original "basement tapes" recording of the song, backed by The Band and recorded in West Saugerties, New York in 1967, was eventually released as part of the compilation album “Biograph” in 1985, it was entitled "Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)"; this is the title of the song according to the official Bob Dylan website.

I have kept the latter title for all versions here, to keep it simple.

A song written by Bob Dylan, it was first recorded by him in July 1965 during the sessions for his “Highway 61 Revisited” LP, but it was not included in the album. It was kept to be released in September 1965 as the follow-up single to “Like A Rolling Stone”. It went to the Top Ten in the USA, in Canada, in the UK and also charted in many other countries.

Some early copies of the "Positively 4th Street" single were mis-pressed, with an outtake version of "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?" (a song that Dylan would release as his next single) appearing on the A-side in place of "Positively 4th Street".

Uncommonly, all the participating musicians were listed on the labels of the 45 rpm single (both sides, the B side being “From A Buick 6”) (see artwork).

The song later first appeared on an LP on “Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits” in March 1967.

A song written by Bob Dylan, it was recorded in January 1965 for his “Bringing It All Back Home” LP (the LP was retitled “Subterranean Homesick Blues” in Europe to cash in on the success of the eponymous single on European offshore radio stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio London, Radio Scotland, Radio England and many more).

To our knowledge, Dylan only sang “Outlaw Blues” live once, a duet version featuring Jack White of The White Stripes in September 2007. He did, however, sing it during a rehearsal for a U.K. concert in 1965. It is featured here as track 20 (poor quality).

The artwork is based on a German 4 track EP which featured the song.
