The Ultimate Dylan-Byrds Connection – Volume 1

A collection of 50 songs by Bob Dylan, each one followed by a version by The Byrds, by an ex-Byrds solo, or by a band ex-Byrds were members of (pre- or post-Byrds). In one case, an ex-Byrd (Michael Clarke) was just the drummer in the backing band of a singer-songwriter (Jerry Jeff Walker).

I tried not to duplicate songs but I had to in a couple of cases; so in those cases, the Dylan performance is an alternate version.

Of course, there are multiple (hundreds) of alternate and live versions available by the master and by the apprentices, but they are not included here.

So it’s 100 tracks spread over 5 discs.

To end on a high note, I added a bonus track at the end of disc 5: the fantastic, goosebumping live version of Mr. Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan AND The Byrds together at the Roy Orbison Tribute in 1990, with Bob Dylan, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby (all singing and playing guitars), Chris Hillman (singing and playing bass), John Jorgensen (guitar) and Steve Duncan (drums). The best composer with the best exponents of his work. Magical.
